Our History

Arthur L. Hoover, for over forty years prior to his death in 1958 leased land of approximately twenty acres, known as "The Hoover Summer Colony" to persons of various means, ages and nationalities. Following Mr. Hoover's death, there was a feeling of uncertainty for those people who owned the buildings and leased the land from year to year. These owners met on July 20, 1958 and laid the foundation for community type organization. As a result of that meeting the subsequent meetings on August 17th and September 7th of 1958, the corporation was formed and "Hoover Beach, Incorporated", a non-profit corporation and taxpayers association was approved by the Secretary of the State of New York on September 10, 1958. The name of Hoover was used to memorialize Arthur L. Hoover, since he had been kind, generous and considerate of the residents on the land and their visitors. The corporation successfully purchased the land tract from the estate of Arthur L. Hoover about July 1, 1959 and divided it into three shores, named North Shore, Mid Shore and South Shore with 168 sub-lots designated for sites for homes, cottages, garages or facilities

NORTH SHORE AREA

The road which runs North-South is "North Shore Drive", the first side road, or northerly-most road running East-West formerly known as "Kessel Lane", and the next road to the south running East-West formerly known as northerly-most road "Britton Lane". This area included 66 sub-lots north of the south line of the sub-lot #89 (known as Mr. Hoover's home) to the northerly line of the tract. The sub-lots on the west side of North Shore Drive have odd numbers from "1" through "99", with sub-lots on the east side of North Shore Drive and on the south side of "Britton Lane" having even numbers from "2" through "98" and additional inland sub-lots having numbers from "300" through "399".

MID SHORE AREA

The road which runs North-South and the side road running East-West is named "Mid Shore Drive". This area includes 45 sub-lots south of the south line of sub-lot #89 ( known as Mr. Hoover's home ) to the creek. The sub-lots on the west side and north side Mid Shore Drive have odd numbers from "101" through "199" , on the east side and south side of Mid Shore Drive having even numbers from "100" through "198" .


SOUTH SHORE AREA  

The road which enters this area, just south of the creek and continues to the southerly line of the tract is South Shore Drive". This area includes 56 sub-lots south of the creek to the southerly line of the tract. ** The sub-lots on the west side and the north side of South Shore Drive have odd numbers from This area includes 56 sub-lots south of the creek to the southerly line of the tract.
